Basic steps in making a handmade horseshoe

These are the basic steps in making a hand made shoe. Put your mouse pointer on a photograph for an explanation.

 

Marked steel after measuring the horses foot.
Steel cut to the proper length.
Center line of steel marked.
Steel heated in the forge and ready for the first bend.
First shoe after the first bend.
Basic form of the heel of the first shoe.
Basic shape of the first shoe. Proper shape will be determined after the shoe is rough fitted to the hoof.
Both front shoes with creases and nail holes punched.
Shoe fit and nailed to the hoof.
Finished clinches and rasping. A happy horse!
